What's funny about Donkey Kong Country Returns is that when I was playing it, I actually had that old nostalgic feeling of okay: I am going to fuck up, then try again, and then I am going to feel great sense of accomplishment. It is pretty lame that if you fuck up enough times, the game offers you Reggie Fils-Aime to power through the stage for you.
I blame Halo for everything with their whole shield regenerating system, it really seemed to take the whole "trying" thing out of video games.
Well, to be fair about the shield regenerating thing, it makes sense in the context of the world of the game. Futuristic setting and all. Also, once that shield is gone, one hit, you're dead.
The only time it weirds me out is playing something like Call of Duty. You get shot up, dive behind a log, and bingo! You're healed! I'm pretty sure during any war, and the casaulty count bares this out, it doesn't work that way!
