Jerry: you say you wouldn't use Mii's for SSB? Why not? I would love to have Venom and Darth Vader to fight the Pringles guy and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
I also agree with Shintai and Jerry on Zelda regarding exploration. For God's sake Nintendo: make it a Sandbox game. The original NES was like the precursor to sandbox games. You could go anywhere and collect heart tanks and items before you had to complete castles; you were especially lucky if enemies dropped a bomb pickup. Zelda needs to come back to that feel. And I swear to holy Christ, if I'm trying to complete a sidequest for a Biggoron's Sword or Epona or extra heart tank/magic upgrade and I hear "Hey! Listen," I will fly over to Japan and personally cram that Wii-U controller so far up Shigeru Myamoto's ass he could manipulate the analog sticks with his tongue.
As far as Assassin's Creed goes, I didn't get into it until Black Flag, and that's only because I love Pre-Revolution colonial shit, British Empire shit, and pirate ships. That said, I only play it for the ship fighting. Once I hit a certain point in the game, I spent all my time raiding ships and upgrading mine. Only 49% of the game complete? I don't care, I have all the fortresses, a fully-upgraded ship, over a million in money, fully upgraded Edward, sunk all four legendary ships, and just go around raiding Spanish and British ships because it's fun. I actually hate having to go on shore to play the missions. I *could* be farther in the game's plot, but raiding ships is just too dam fun! Also, fuck the office-computer parts, I want to get back looting rum and sugar from that level 60 Man-o-war pirate hunter.
Thanks for sharing all my questions.
..dang it, I missed two live shows. Is there any way you can post on the mondocoolcast.com blog when you are live? I never check facebook and trying to remember every other weekend is this weekend or last--I just don't keep a schedule but check the blog from time to time.
Since I missed mcc 101, I have some comments.
I believe the Twitch purchase was a smart one. The main benefit is bringing in all the Twitch users is much easier than getting Youtube users to adopt a new scheme and splitting a large customer base (mo people == mo money).
Also not having to re-invent the tech on Youtube may save some time. I'm sure that they are working on integrating their services to make the services work seamlessly, hiding any fact that they are the same service. It also benefits both companies as they can share technology freely.
He heh, hate to smash your balls with a hammer, $50K is a low salary of ONE software engineer and not enough for such a hypothetical project as creating a reliable streaming service that integrates well with the current Youtube infrastructure.
And one more for mcc 101:
Why all the hate for the AVGN? He made money, he garnered the fanbase, and he spent the money on rare games. Instead of being so cynical, be happy for a fellow gamer.
Finally mcc 102 comments:
You guys nailed my impression of E3. Nintendo boasted the best lineup with solid first party games (I emphasize FIRST). To me, they had the most fun looking upcoming releases. Thouogh I don't have a Wii U, it must suck for Wii U owners as all these games are given a tentative 2015 release date. Can the Wii U survive until then? I suspect poor Winter holidays' sales.
Also the Sony press conference was surprisingly poor compared to MS with tons of technical failures and, I believe, a less exciting assortment of games. This is coming from a person who has always bought Sony, having only picked up an original Xbox from a g-sale within the last year or so.
Comparing specs of PS4 and XBONE:
There really is much to compare and very little contrasting specs. First, the only difference I see is PS4 has more shader units and faster RAM. This extra throughput allows for faster processing of textures and related effects (lighting, shadows, etc.). You might see dual citizenship games having a higher res on the PS4 and possibly running at a smoother overall rate. Technically the PS4 can process almost twice as much texture- and effect-wise in half the time as the XBONER.
A big ~HOWEVER~ is that game companies have gotten smart, having survived the last generation. We all noticed the homogenization of games. That is because game devs are proofing the same spec on either platform, making sure they have the base spec running and arguably looking the same. Devs want this. They don't want to put extra time and money into a project when they don't receive any benefit from the platform holder. Again you will see deals with developers to put extra content on either system. And though DLC might not push you to a platform, it has a net effect of urging people to buy content on one platform vs the other and thus increased profit to that platform holder.
Shoot..I forgot one other difference between PS4 and XBONE. Both have 8 CPU cores, but XBONE reserves two for other processes, thus taking away some of the potential power.
Shintai I think the combat in Skyrim works well. Id personnally like it if you could chop of the limbs and not just the head at times. Elder Scrolls fighting system has been all over the place, and Im not saying it is the best, but I think they got it down in Skyrim. There is one game that did it better, which is Arx Fatalis. I respect it more when devs are able to pull off close combat in the first person perspective, on the other hand I do like the htird person perspective and they have made it work well. Which action RPG's fighting system would work in your opinion better for Skyrim? I always liked first person combat myself, atleast for action roleplaying games. Either that or top down Diablo style.
